Whip scorpions inhabit warm countries such as Arabia, India, Africa, tropical and Central South America. They resemble both scorpions and spiders. They have powerful pincers and four pair of legs, the first of which function as feelers. At the end of the segmented abdomen, it has a whip-like tail.
Like scorpions they are nocturnal in habits. During the day they conceal themselves in damp places, under stones, fallen logs, bark of trees and crevices. As they look fearful, they are dreaded as venomous. Infact, they are harmless and non-poisonous when handled. They only emit a pungent acid. The evil-smelling acid protects them from their enemies. Their food consists of small insects. The genus that is found in India has a long, slender tail and its body is 7 to 8 cm long.
